On July 17, 2019, the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) of the British Department of Transport published their annual report, which highlights the work of the branch during 2018 and includes:
In 2018, the MAIB stated that there were 1227 accidents and 23 investigations started. For the 9th consecutive year there were no UK merchant vessels over 100 gross tons lost. The accident rate for UK merchant vessels over 100 gt was 64 per 1000 vessels – down from 75 per 1000 vessels in 2017.
However 8 commercial fishing vessels were lost in 2018, compared with 6 in 2017.
